About Robbin
Robbin made her first garment at age seven on a toy chain stitch sewing machine with her mother’s guidance. At ten, her grandmother helped her make an a-line skirt and from that day on she was hooked on sewing. She made all her clothes and many craft items while she was growing up. The summer after her freshman year in college she made her first quilt. She thought if you know how to sew then you know how to make a quilt! She soon found out there was a little more to it than that. That whole double-sized quilt was one big nine patch, sandwiched with a blanket, and tied. The second attempt was a Dresden Plate, and since she had some help from her grandmother who had made two or three quilts, it turned out better than the first quilt. Then she attempted a baby quilt when she was pregnant with her first child in 1980. She still didn’t know what a 1/4'” seam was, that points should match, and that quilting thread and needles existed! But the quilting obsession had set in and from then on it was quilts, quilts, and more quilts.
Since those early days of quilting, Robbin has gone on to make over 250 quilts and quilted garments of all sizes, shapes, and techniques. She has shown many quilts at area guild shows, the NC Quilt Symposium, and the American Quilt Society in Paducah, KY., and on those quilts she has won many ribbons. For almost 20 years she has been teaching classes at local shops, the Appalachian Quilt Party, the NC Quilt Symposium, the Myrtle Beach Quilt Party, Hiddenite, Tennessee Quilts, and through guilds around North Carolina and Virginia.
Robbin grew up in Virginia and North Carolina, and now lives in the Charlotte area with her husband. They are enjoying the empty nest life since their three children have all finished school and are on their own.
